Induction and the electrical reality in older South Bay homes
Here's the part most homeowners don't see coming, and where our local knowledge pays off. Many South Bay homes — the 1940s–70s stock across Torrance, El Segundo, and the beach cities — run on 100-amp service that simply can't support modern luxury appliances. Add an induction cooktop, a Wolf electric wall oven, or several built-ins, and you frequently trigger a 100-amp to 200-amp panel upgrade: its own permit, its own budget line, its own timeline.
Current code also requires dedicated circuits for the fridge, dishwasher, microwave, and disposal, at least two 20-amp small-appliance circuits, and GFCI/AFCI protection on countertop outlets. Salt air ages older panels faster in the coastal cities, too. Can you install an induction cooktop where I have a gas range now?
