We know your city's building department
There is no single "South Bay" building department. Torrance requires a Zoning Clearance before anything else and moved to fully digital plan check in January 2026. El Segundo routes submittals through its EZ Permit Hub. Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach issue their own Coastal Development Permits under delegated authority. Rancho Palos Verdes requires SCAQMD clearance for demolition and may call for asbestos or lead testing on older homes. And in Palos Verdes Estates, the city permit is only half the story — exterior changes go before the Art Jury too.
Here's the honest version, because it matters: most interior-only kitchen remodels don't trigger a coastal permit or the Art Jury — those apply when you touch the outside of the house or increase floor area. We check whether your specific parcel triggers either, rather than guessing. Almost any remodel that moves electrical, plumbing, ventilation, or a wall does need a building permit, and we pull it. We give you a realistic timeline up front and update you at each milestone, rather than promising a date we can't hit.
Do I need a permit for my kitchen remodel?
Almost always, unless the work is purely cosmetic (paint, a like-for-like countertop swap, refacing). Anything that touches electrical, plumbing, ventilation, or walls triggers a permit — often separate trade permits on top of the building permit. We handle all of it.
Can I stay in my home during the remodel?
Most homeowners do. We seal off the work zone with dust containment, keep the rest of your home clean, and help you set up a temporary kitchen. We'll be honest about the weeks the kitchen itself is unusable.
