The word gets used by three very different businesses
Search "cabinet makers near me" in the South Bay and you'll get three kinds of company wearing the same label. Big-box home centers sell stock boxes in fixed sizes and subcontract the install to whoever is free that week. Single-line dealers sell one manufacturer's semi-custom catalog — genuinely better, but the custom stops where that catalog stops, and when something arrives wrong you're waiting on a factory two states away.
The third kind builds the cabinets. That means your measurements drive the box, not the other way around — any width to the eighth of an inch, any height including a clean run to the ceiling, any species and finish. It also means that when a wall turns out to be three-quarters of an inch out of plumb, which in these houses it usually is, the fix happens here instead of becoming a six-week reorder.

That matters more than it sounds. Cabinetry is the one part of a kitchen that is simultaneously furniture and construction: it has to be built to furniture tolerances and then installed into a house that was framed decades ago. A licensed builder that also runs the cabinet work means one company carries the design, the build, and the install — and one company is accountable when the reveal isn't even.

Plywood boxes, not particleboard.
Furniture-grade multi-ply that holds a screw, survives a slow leak under the sink, and stays square — which matters double this close to salt air.

South Bay homes have specific problems. We build for them.
Coastal humidity and salt air are hard on cabinetry — it's why we spec plywood carcasses and catalyzed finishes as standard rather than as an upgrade line item, and why we're careful about how hardware is specified within a few blocks of the water in Hermosa and Manhattan Beach.
The housing stock has its own quirks too. Torrance mid-centuries tend to have low soffits and walls that have moved since the fifties. Peninsula homes have split levels, hillside foundations, and ceiling heights that make a stock upper cabinet look stranded. Building the boxes ourselves is what lets us scribe to a wall that isn't straight instead of hiding the gap behind a strip of trim.

Custom cabinetry is a premium tier, meaningfully above semi-custom and stock, because every box is built for your kitchen rather than pulled from a catalog. Where a specific project lands depends on species, finish, interior fittings, and scope, so we quote after seeing the space — with a fixed written scope and a milestone payment schedule from day one.
Can you match cabinets to something I already have?
Usually, yes. Because we're building rather than ordering, we can work to a sample — an existing run of cabinetry, a piece of furniture, or a finish you've found elsewhere — instead of trying to find the closest thing in a catalog.
How long does custom cabinetry take?
Longer than pulling stock off a shelf and generally comparable to a semi-custom factory order, because the build starts after the design is final and the field measurements are taken. We give you the real timeline in writing before anything is ordered or cut.
