Kitchen design in the South Bay — one accountable team, and you stay in control

One company to handle everything, so you're not stuck coordinating a designer, an architect, and a contractor — without being railroaded into someone else's choices. Those two wishes usually feel like a trade-off. With us, they aren't.

DESIGN-BUILD

One accountable team, under one roof

South Bay Kitchens is a design-build kitchen company, which means design and construction live under one roof and one accountable team. But design-build with us doesn't mean we design it and you sign off. You stay in the driver's seat on every meaningful choice — layout, cabinetry, stone, hardware, appliances — with real renderings so you can see it before we build it, and the freedom to bring materials from anywhere.

Design-build exists to solve a real pain: the homeowner who doesn't know whether to hire a designer, an architect, or a contractor first, and ends up refereeing between all three when something goes wrong. Under design-build, one team owns the whole thing — so when you have a question, there's one number to call, and when there's a problem, no one can point at someone else.

Our design process

Good design starts with how you live, not with a catalog. Here's how a project moves from idea to buildable plan.

  1. 01

    Discovery.

We come to your kitchen and talk through how you actually cook, gather, and entertain — where the light falls, where traffic jams, what you love and what you'd tear out today. We talk budget honestly at this stage, because design decisions and investment are linked.

  2. 02

    Concept and layout.

We develop layout options that solve your real problems — the cramped work triangle, the wall between the kitchen and the living room, the island that's too small to seat the family. You see the trade-offs, not just one take-it-or-leave-it plan.

  3. 03

    Renderings.

You get real 3D renderings of your kitchen — not a mood board, an actual view of your room with your cabinets, your stone, and your light. This is where "I think I'll like it" becomes "yes, that."

  4. 04

    Material and finish selection.

Cabinets, countertops, backsplash, hardware, faucet, flooring, lighting. We guide you with samples and honest pros and cons, then you choose.

  5. 05

    Buildable plan and fixed scope.

Design converts directly into a detailed, fixed written scope and a milestone schedule — no re-bidding, no handoff to a stranger, no gap where the vision gets lost in translation.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Accountability is ours; control is yours

That's the upside of design-build. The fear that comes with it — and it's a real one we hear constantly — is being steamrolled: "I felt unheard during their haste to get my project into production," "I'd have felt like it was being done to me." Some design firms move fast and lock you into whatever they carry.

We resolve that tension on purpose. One team owns the outcome, so nothing falls through the cracks between "the plan" and "the build" — and because the people who design your kitchen are the same team that builds it, the finished room actually matches the renderings. You make every meaningful call along the way.

YOUR MATERIALS

You choose your own materials

Here's the line that matters most: we are not a cabinet dealer with one brand to sell you. Some showrooms only offer a single cabinet line, so "design help" quietly becomes "you'll take what we stock." That's the complaint we hear again and again — the homeowner who found the perfect door and was told the firm "doesn't have what I want."

With us, if you found cabinets you love somewhere else, we'll build around them. If you fell for a specific quartzite slab at a stone yard, we'll fabricate it. If your heart is set on a La Cornue range or a panel-ready Sub-Zero, we design the kitchen to feature it. Our job is to make your choices work beautifully and to tell you the truth about durability, maintenance, and cost — not to funnel you into our margins. You stay in control; we stay accountable for the result.

OUR AESTHETIC

A coastal-contemporary eye, across every style

Our aesthetic home base is coastal contemporary — light, air, sea-air neutrals, warm white oak and natural stone, matte finishes, brass or matte-black accents. Not literal beach kitsch; the calm, sunlit look of a well-designed South Bay home on a bright morning. Warm whites, taupes, and muted sage have replaced cool gray.

The "slab look" — large-format stone on the counter and running up as a full-height backsplash — is a signature move. So is floor-to-ceiling custom cabinetry that finally uses the vertical space. But we design across the styles the South Bay actually lives in, matched to your home and your neighborhood.

Frequently asked questions

What is design-build, and why does it matter for a kitchen?

Design-build means one team designs and builds your kitchen, instead of you hiring a separate designer, architect, and contractor and coordinating between them. It gives you a single point of accountability — one number to call — and no gap where the design gets lost in the handoff to a builder.

Can I still choose my own cabinets and materials?

Absolutely. We're not tied to a single cabinet brand, so you're free to choose cabinetry, stone, hardware, and appliances from anywhere. We build around what you love and tell you the honest trade-offs — you stay in control of every choice.

Will I see my kitchen before you build it?

Yes. You get real 3D renderings of your actual room with your selected cabinets, countertops, and lighting — so you can make confident decisions before anything is ordered or demolished.

Do you design in styles other than coastal?

Yes. Coastal contemporary is our home base, but we design and build transitional, modern, and mid-century kitchens too — matched to your home and your South Bay neighborhood.

Does the same team that designs my kitchen also build it?

Yes. Your design isn't handed off to a stranger. The team that plans your kitchen carries it through construction, which is how the finished kitchen actually matches the renderings.
